Tools (4)

  1. fetchPubmedArticlesFetch full article details from PubMed using EFetch. Returns complete article metadata including abstract, authors, journal info, MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms, and keywords for up to 20 PMIDs. Safe to bind to PMIDs from searchPubmed/findRelatedArticles: an empty pmids array returns empty articles without calling the API.2 credits
  2. findRelatedArticlesFind related or linked articles in PubMed using ELink. Can find similar articles, references cited by an article, or articles that cite it. Returns article summaries with title, authors, journal, and publication date.2 credits
  3. lookupMeshTermsResolve natural language medical/scientific terms to their canonical MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) descriptors. ONLY use this when the user explicitly requests MeSH-based searching, MeSH major topics, or precise controlled vocabulary. Do NOT use this for general/exploratory searches — use searchPubmed with the query parameter directly instead. For example, 'statins' resolves to 'Hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA Reductase Inhibitors', 'chronic kidney disease' resolves to 'Renal Insufficiency, Chronic'. Returns the canonical heading, scope note, and synonyms for each term.Free
  4. searchPubmedSearch PubMed for scientific articles. Returns article summaries (title, authors, journal, publication date, DOI) for each result. Use fetchPubmedArticles with the returned pmIds to get full article details (abstract, MeSH terms). Two search modes: (1) query string for most searches — use plain keywords like 'CRISPR gene therapy cancer'; (2) meshTerms array ONLY when the user explicitly asks for MeSH-based or MeSH major topic searching — call lookupMeshTerms first, then pass results here. Default to query for general searches. Only use meshTerms when MeSH precision is explicitly requested. Supports filters for language/species/age/sex, text availability, date filtering, and pagination. Searches all time by default. Use dateRange or recentDays to filter by date.1 credit
